Galloway’s gear up for two-day Cross Bay Walk
Local sight loss Charity, Galloway’s Society for the Blind, are encouraging people to put their best foot forward and join them on the 4th or 5th of August as they cross the famous sands of Morecambe Bay, being the only charity to have two exclusive days.
Galloway’s previously oversubscribed walk, has the capacity to take 500 participants on the walk each day. Over the years, the event has raised over £500,000 – making a life changing difference to local blind and partially sighted people.
Charlotte Carnell, Fundraiser at Galloway’s commented, “Having never crossed the bay myself; I’m really excited about it! It is something different and an event that’s on many people’s bucket list. Knowinghow much Galloway’s has been able to raisethrough this event and the difference that it’s made to just some of 50,000 people living in the Lancashire and Sefton area who are affected by sight loss is a really proud feeling.
The Morecambe Bay Walk is Galloway’s flagship event and draws people in from all over the country to take part. I’m really excited to meet all our walkers in August and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the sunshine!”
The Morecambe Bay Walk is happening over two days Saturday 04th August starting at 10.30 and again on Sunday 05th starting at 11.00am. The walk starts in Arnside and is expected to take between 3 and 4 hours, finishing in Kents Bank. More details and registration can be done either by visiting Eventbrite and searching Galloway’s Morecambe Bay Walk or calling 01772 744148. Galloway’s also offers a transport service for people wanting transport from the Preston/Chorley and Morecambe area to and from the event. This needs to be booked by emailing charlotte atcharlotte.carnell@galloways.org.uk.
Nathan Scanlon, who took part in the Galloway’s Bay Walk a few years ago, commented, “I’d heard the Morecambe Bay Walk was one of those events that everybody should experience, so I signed myself and my daughter up to join the Galloway’s walk. I had no idea what to expect, but Galloway’s were brilliant at letting us know what the event would entail, what we should bring on the day and even advised on what we should wear. I used their transport service which made travelling to and from the bay walk really simple.
We both had the most amazing day, my daughter Evie absolutely loved it. The atmosphere from start to finish was brilliant. It was tough in parts, but the Galloway’s team and other walkers really got behind everybody. We were able to raise £100 in sponsorship which will make a real difference to the charity and people affected by sight loss. I’d urge anybody to do the Morecambe Bay Walk, it is a fantastic day for the whole family for a very worthy cause.”
Galloway’s supports over 7,000 blind and partially sighted people across Sefton and Lancashire at any point during someone’s sight loss journey, whether that be at the point of diagnosis or being encouraged to live independently.
