Galloway’s – we can’t do it without you!
Southport based sight loss charity, Galloway’s Society for the blind, are supporting the national initiative “Volunteers Week” which takes place between the 1st and 7th June.
Volunteers Week is a national celebration of the fantastic contribution that volunteers make to hundreds of communities across the country.
Galloway’s supports over 7,000 blind and partially sighted people and have to find £1million to continue their services every year. To achieve this, the charity has the support of over 400 volunteers.
Stuart Clayton, Chief Executive at Galloway’s, explained, “Galloway’s volunteers are simply amazing and enable us to provide more support than our finances allow. We use a phenomenal 55,000 volunteer hours every year. We’re supporting “Volunteers Week” not just as an opportunity to say a huge thank you to all our volunteers, but also to invite anybody who is interested in becoming a volunteer to our open afternoon event to meet existing volunteers and learn more about Galloway’s.”
The charity uses volunteers across all areas of the charity including delivering services, fundraising and finance and administration. Currently, the charity has a range of volunteer opportunities available including minibus drivers and marketing support.
Stuart summarised, “Galloway’s has had the most amazing 150-year history. We are trusted, we are valued and we are loved. And much of that is down to our amazing volunteers. We support people to overcome the challenges and devastation of sight loss and have been doing since 1867. We currently receive over 55,000 volunteer hours, but we need more! There are many roles we need help with, across all areas of our organisation. If you feel you have time to spare and could use your skills and experience to help blind and partially sighted people in your local community, come along to our open afternoon held at Galloway’s, 22 Wright Street, Southport, PR9 0TL, on 6th June between 1pm and 4pm to find out more about becoming part of our amazing team of volunteers.”
