The public were able to share their views on the progress of the Station Master’s House project in Birkdale last week.
The Birkdale Community Hub and Library group held a public meeting at Southport and Birkdale Sports Club on Trafalgar Road to invite suggestions and comments.
Buildings project manager Phil Margham revealed that their plans to transform the house at Birkdale Station into a small lib- rary and community hub with meeting rooms, plus computer and media facilities has made good progress as they pass the £60,000 fundraising mark. They are hoping to reach £110,000 in total.
He said: “All areas have made progress – the outside of the house has been made good and painted by Network Rail and lease negotiations are close to conclusion. The internal structural changes required to make the house fit for its new purpose have been agreed, and building permission is being sought from Network Rail.
“A lift would be installed once funds have been raised, possibly as a second phase.”
