It’s full steam ahead for an appeal which has been launched by Southport Model Railway Society for a project on a much bigger scale to what they are used to – repairs to the town’s original railway station.
The group has set up a page on crowdfunding donations website Spacehive and they need to reach their target of £1,632 by December 21 to restore Eastbank Lane Station, which opened in 1847. They have raised £750 so far and need to raise a further £882 to make the building available to members of the public.
Although the station closed in 1851, the station master’s house and ticket office still stand adjacent to the level crossing on Portland Street.
They plan to use the funds to replace the electricity distribution board; renew the internal wiring and lighting as appropriate; redecorate and renew if necessary the damaged internal plasterwork and improve the garden.
