Free Cider tasting event at Hillside Micropub
Local Cider producer Chris Brennan will be giving away free sample of his cider at the CAMRA Free Cider Tasting event at the Grasshopper Micropub next Thursday (18th October).
Chris has been producing ciders from local apples at this cider house in Hightown for 3 years now.
Chris said “We are not really in a Cider producing region. We don’t have large orchards, but it occurred to me that many people have apple trees in their gardens and at this time of year many many apples go to waste.
We want to produce great cider from those apples. It is a kind of recycling. Now we want to give back that cider and let people taste what good has come from it.’
Anybody who wants apples cleared away can call Chris on 07914682885
CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, is running a Cider Month in October to promote real ciders. They are running the Free Cider tasting event at the Grasshopper to allow drinkers to sample real ciders. Drinkers will be offered samples of 6 different real ciders and perries, in addition to Chris’s cider, ranging from dry to sweet and including fruit ciders. The ciders will demonstrate the different tastes that the many different types of cider apple impart. Real cider is made from 100% apples, contrasting with some commercial ciders that may be as low as 35%.
CAMRA’s local cider co-ordinator, Joanne Griffith, commented “Chris’s cider is good, it compares favourably with many of the larger scale cider producers .“
The Free Cider tasting event is at the Grasshopper Micropub, 70 Sandon Road, Hillside close to Hillside train station and on the 47 bus route.
It starts at 7pm and is scheduled to run to 9:30pm if the cider lasts that long!
