Merseyside Police can confirm that serving police constable Darren McIntyre has been found guilty of s47 assault and perverting the course of justice.
Three other officers – police constables Garrie Burke, Laura Grant and Lauren Buchanan-Lloyd – have also been found guilty of perverting the course of justice.
The charges were brought following a thorough and extensive investigation by the Force’s Professional Standards Department into the conduct of the officers.
The investigation followed an allegation of assault made by a member of the public. It related to an incident at an address in Cherry Road, Ainsdale, in June 2019 which was attended by the four officers.
The verdicts follow a trial held at a special Nightingale court at the Hilton Hotel in Liverpool which concluded yesterday, Thursday 29th April.
Sentencing has been adjourned until Thursday 27th May.
All four officers are currently suspended.
All of them will now face internal misconduct proceedings for breaches of the standards of professional behaviour connected to a criminal conviction, which could lead to their dismissal from the force and them being placed on the national Barred List preventing them from being re-employed in policing in future.
