Former MP’s concerned at Danger glass canopies

Southport’s Ex MP is horrified and greatly concerned that ‘sizeable’ holes which are appearing in the glass canopies on Lord Street’s iconic verandahs, are a danger to shoppers and traders.

Dukes Ward Councillor, John Pugh shared photographs of a large jagged gap in a glass can- opy by the Trespass store, and said he was ‘horrified’ by the threat it poses.

He said: “Sefton Council’s officers have struggled at times to get traders to repair the fam- ous canopies in a timely way, putting the public at risk.

“I am horrified at the prospect of glass falling on people.

“Council officers have pointed out that the broken glass has wires running through it to hold it in place but the missing glass must have gone somewhere.

“Writing letters to owners is not a sufficient response – it would be better for the council to do an immediate repair and bill the owner afterwards, when public safety is the concern.”
