Shoppers at Waitrose in Formby have been evacuated alongside worried staff following an emergency incident.
Police and emergency services have been called to the supermarket after reports of an emergency incident at the store near to Chapel Lane.
Staff on site were forced to turn away customers turning up to the supermarket while shoppers already inside were safely evacuated after the alarm was raised.
Shoppers were initially told via tannoy to leave their goods where they were and everyone was moved to the furthest point away from the supermarket entrance, at the corner of the car park.
One shopper said customers were later readmitted “with no explanation but a free pack of mince pies”.
The nature of the incident is currently unknown and an update from emergency services is expected shortly.
