Weekend highlights
FCFC Women Tigers (Blacks) vs. Wigan
A lively start from both teams saw Tigers make an early break through with a long ball from the keeper out foxing the defence and leaving Nicky one on one with Wigan’s goalie- one good touch, a lean back and great shot straight into the top right corner left the keeper with no chance. Wigan fought back and were unlucky to end the half 1-0 down thanks to a commendable performance by Tigers keeper- Jess. Second half Tigers were composed and focussed; there were some great runs and interplay down the wings from Elizabeth, Tashi and Margy. An unfortunate own goal by Wigan brought Tigers 2-0 up and lifted everyones motivation. Laura did a great job in defence managing to contain Wigan and with Margy and Raquel keeping tight in the middle- Wigans best chance was stopped by a magnificent triple save by Jess. An entertaining game was capped late on by some calamitous defending by Wigan resulting in a cool tap past the keeper by Raquel. 2 games, 2 clean sheets, 4 points and more to come!
FCFC Women Tigers (Orange) Liverpool FedsA tough start for the FCFC Tigers Orange team in the Liverpool FA She Can Play League against a strong Liverpool Feds side. The start time was moved forward leaving the ladies with little time to prepare which cost them in the first half. The Feds dominated the game and by half time the Tigers were 4-0 down. The break gave the FCFC side a chance to regroup and a more organised team held their ground with some good passing and movement in the second half. The game ended 5-0 to the Feds. A disappointing result but with lots of positives to take away, particularly as the team were playing together for the first time.
FCFC Roma v Forefield Rangers
A great double win weekend for FCFC Roma U11. For the first time this season Roma won back to back games over the weekend.
A great victory over Forefield Rangers on Saturday at Hightown was quickly followed by an excellent win over local derby team FCFC Rangers in Skem on Sunday. Every player involved was excellent and deserved their rewards for such a big effort.
FCFC U16 Blacks v U16 Melling Boys
As the score suggests, a close game played on a soggy pitch that, credit to both teams, still saw passing football being played. The Blacks took a 1-0 lead into HT thanks to a sharp finish from Alex Kirby who followed up on his shot the keeper superbly saved, to coolly slide the ball home. A rasping right foot effort just before half-time deserved to send The Blacks in 2 up, however the keepers right hand post stood firm and saw the ball cleared.
Great saves in the 2nd half especially by Nathan Farley secured the clean sheet with The Blacks defence performing resolutely as a unit. At the other end a series of chances went begging but their creation was a joy to watch.
MoM Nick Moustaka dominates a midfield that saw a wealth of talent on both sides. Superb game. The win sees The Blacks now a clear 2nd in the league with a meaningful chance of promotion by Xmas. We will see…
FCFC Athletico u12 v Rainford rangers
Athletico won their third game on the bounce against Rainford Rangers. Although they dominated much of the match, their opponents kept pressing and made them work hard for the victory. Goals came from Macey Taylor, Darcey Martin, Katy Nicholson, Faye Johnson, Kiera O’Rourke and Mae Phillips. The match finished 6-3 to Athletico.
FCFC U8 Oranges v FC Northern Blue
Well, sometimes you hold your hands up and take your hat off to the opposition. A one-sided game saw the lads come up against possibly the strongest opposition yet. The lads suffered a heavy defeat, going 0-1 down within seconds their heads seemed to drop and the opposition punished at every opportunity. Some good saves from Ethan & Beau kept the score down, with Reuben and Zak going close to nicking a consolation goal. The lads chose Reuben & Zak as split MOTM.
U14 FCFC Albion V Oxton Ladies
A very close game with 2 very attacking teams on the pitch . Albion took the lead with a great header by Aaliyah Turner from a corner. Oxton hit back with 2 goals to make it 2-1 at halftime. Albion draw level in the second half with a brave Eva Sears header, Oxton go 3-2 up. Aaliyah Turner came close and on the follow up the keeper brings her down leading to an Albion penalty. Aaliyah smashed the penalty home to make it 3-3! Ten mins to go an Oxton take the lead with a deflected goal, while attacking Albion allow Oxton to score again , but brave goalkeeper Sophie Hughes was injured banging her head and Abbey Leary was elbowed in the head. With 2 players down the game was stopped for 10 mins while Sophie was treated on the pitch. Yasmin Godsall went in goal to finish the game and Albion pushes on but the game finished 5-3 to Oxton . Girl of the game was Eva Sears.
FCFC RAPIDS U6 v Ormskirk U7 girls
Second game of season saw FCFC Rapids U6 girls record their first win. Ormskirk U7 girls were up against it from the beginning after a long distance shot from Jess Griffiths hit the bottom left corner. Esme Allen was like a brick wall in defence allowing the midfield to dominate their opponents. Eva Worthington netted a fine hat-trick to knock the wind out of the sails of Ormskirk who were slowly trying to make a contest of it.
FCFC U14 Real Girls v Rainford Rangers
A goal within the first seconds of the game by Kaya Jones shortly followed by another from Evie Law looked like Real were heading for an easy win but Rainford Rangers U14 had other ideas.
Rainford fought back well in a competitive second half where either team could have grabbed the points.
However a superb solo effort from Evie Law found the top corner to seal the win for Real.
Manager Kevin Garforth said: “We made hard work of it and missed a lot of chances but at least we got the win in the end. The goal to win was as good as you’ll see.”
Real Won 3-2. Player for the game was Evie Law.
