Police have charged a 20 year-old man with robbery.

Tadiwa Ian Chihota, of Clovelly Road, Liverpool, has been charged with robbery, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, dangerous driving, handling stolen goods and possession of cannabis.

He has been remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool City Magistrates Court today, Thursday 31st May.


Police have arrested a man following reports of an armed robbery in Southport this afternoon, Tuesday 29 May.

At around 3.15pm, a call was received of a robbery in progress at Flannels clothes shop on Tulketh Street. A man was reported as entering with what was described as a gun, before stealing items and running off. Staff were uninjured but understandably distressed.

The man drove off in a black Ford Fiesta Zetec down Wesley Street. Following enquiries, officers identified the car and it was found to have collided with the wall of a house in Lady Green Court, Victoria Road, Ince Blundell. A man ran off and was detained by officers.

A 20-year-old man from Anfield was arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been taken into custody for questioning.

A suspected imitation firearm has been recovered from the car and suspected stolen property, which will be examined for further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Tony O’Brien said: “We believe that there were members of the public in the shop who may have witnessed the incident, and we are keen to speak to all of them.

“Additionally, if you saw a car matching this description being driven at speed in the areas, let us know and pass on any dashcam footage, which may be vital to the investigation.”
