First night of fireworks championships cancelled

Tonight’s (Friday 22nd September) British Musical Fireworks Championship event will no longer being going ahead.

A spokesperson said: “Due to consistently recorded high winds on-site and the forecast for the rest of the day we have made the decision to cancel tonight’s event. This is due to the extreme likelihood of having to stop the show during the event.

“This early decision was made after consultation with the competition clerk, the wind specialist and the competitors, and is based on the health and safety of our visitors. The early decision gives the competitors time to safely de-rig their show.

“Unfortunately, the tickets cannot be used for tomorrow’s event and all tickets purchased will be refunded automatically. Details will be on our website, www.visitsouthport.com over the coming days.”
