A firefighter was taken to hospital last night after being run over by a fire engine.
The incident happened during a response to a 999 call in Southport town centre last night.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue were initially called to a property on Portland Street shortly before midnight, responding to a small electrical fire at a residential address.
OTS News understands that the firefighter was struck by another appliance in the process of exiting his own vehicle.
The firefighter received first aid and was quickly taken to Aintree Hospital but later discharged. The injured firefighter returned to Southport Community Fire Station this morning.
North West Ambulance Service confirmed one male patient was taken to hospital.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue said: “Crews were alerted at 9.58pm and on scene at 10.03pm. Three fire engines attended as well as North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and Merseyside Police.
“Crews arrived to find a two-storey house with a microwave fire that was extinguished prior to their arrival.
“During the incident, a firefighter was injured and taken to hospital by NWAS. The firefighter had sustained bruising and was discharged shortly after.”
