Fire crews battered by chippy blaze

Fire crews have rushed to the scene of a chip shop fire after smoke was seen billowing out of a Nevill Street building.

The flats above Silcocks Embassy Restaurant have been evacuated and staff have been told they can’t re enter the shop for some time while fire crews tackle the minor blaze.

It’s not yet known what the official cause of the fire is but fire fighters on scene say its likely the fire was started by human error.

Nobody has been reportedly hurt.

The road remains open to traffic but Stanley Street is temporarily shut.
