Fire crews are pleading with people not to start fires on dry grassland this weekend.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire said “these cases are investigated and
we will be working with Mer- seyside Police, local authorities and partner agencies to identify offenders.
”Our advice to residents is to take care when out in grassed and wooded areas, be vigilant but also report any suspicious activity to ourselves and the police immediately.”
As part of its current opera- tions to tackle grassland fires, MFRS is positioning some hosing equipment near at risk sites to be ready for quick use in case of repeated fire incidents.
Fire chiefs have asked people to ensure cigarettes are extin- guished correctly and never to throw discarded butts out of car windows.
People should avoid using open fires in the countryside and should not leave bottles or glass in woodland as sunlight shining through glass can start fires.
