Fêted folk hero Luke Daniels is bringing the ‘Electrophon’ to Southport.
Genius loves company
Luke Daniels, recently described as “a genius” by fRoots magazine, is touring his varied selection of smart new songs for grown-ups this autumn – and he’s bringing along a brand new musical instrument to help him do it.
The BBC Award-winning composer has designed and built the ‘Electrophon’ for this solo tour. It combines Victorian clockwork engineering from previous work on disc-playing polyphon music boxes with digital audio to perform live music as “continuous versus quantum sound” via 20” steel discs that have been specially made for the show.
What does that mean? You’re in for a night like no other. “Intriguing songs of modern morality” is how The Guardian described Daniels latest work and the Cara Dillon Band and Riverdance Orchestra member has indeed set his sights at the very highest level to promise a night of outstanding acoustic songs and music with a difference.
Expect to hear both beautifully crafted songs and intriguing instrumental music at the shows, which have already proved popular at this year’s Celtic Connections and the US Folk Alliance Conference in Kansas City.
New album ‘Singing Ways To Feel More Junior’ arrives later this year and delicately tackles issues of gender equality, addiction, upgraded Homosapiens, child consumerism and President Trump’s childhood; whilst encompasses humble woodnotes to syrupy synthesized twists. “An enchanting delight”, was how Acoustic Magazine described Luke’s latest show and with Songlines declaring “these songs already sound like future classics”, this is a tour you won’t want to miss.
“Folk songs can be inspirational and comforting,” says Luke. “They needn’t be the preserve of the exponents of authenticity.” Find out what all the fuss is about from September.
