As you may know Woodlands have hosted various onsite fundraising events to raise much needed money, that goes directly to the running costs of the charity, which, with over 300 animals to care for 365 days a year and a skilled team to do that can seem an insurmountable task. One of these annual events has been the big Family Fun Day, which has always run on the first weekend of September. This year, however, Woodlands are not running this ‘big’ open day, they are simply running three themed summer open days.
The next one is rapidly approaching and on Sunday 9th June the team at Woodlands would like to invite you to Feather Fest, from 11-3pm, on their site in Holmeswood. As usual there will be the fun dog show, judged by one of the fabulous vets from Rufford Veterinary Group and the chance to meet all the animals in Woodlands care, from the hogs to the horses and the guinea’s to the goats. Meet the hogs being rehabilitated, the residents who are living permanently at Woodlands, for lots of different reasons, as well as the cats who are available for rehoming. Although please note: No animals will be released for rehoming during an open day, however you are able to register your interest should you have any.
Alongside all of this, you will also find fun activities for children, a variety of stalls to suit all tastes, not to mention the wide and delicious variety of food that is always available during Woodlands Open days, the majority of which is homemade!
The theme this time is birds and so alongside Woodlands’ resident birds you will also be able to meet and greet a range of birds of prey. Majestic and awe inspiring, birds of prey can seem a world apart from the cute little birdies we often see in our gardens, and to have the chance to see them close up, and to ask questions about them, isn’t an opportunity we get often.
So why not spend a day with your family and friends, enjoying good company, good food, and a friendly atmosphere, learning about various different animal species, not to mention helping a very worthwhile local charity? You may even pick up the bargain of the year at one of the stalls! Come along and meet the hardworking team, please do bring your loose change, or even any ‘loose notes’ you may have, because although it is said often, it really it true; every little helps!
