FA Cup | Farsley Celtic V Southport FC
After a tough start to the season for Southport, the club take a welcomed break from league action this weekend as they make the trip to Leeds to face Farsley Celtic in the Emirates FA Cup second qualifying round.
Last time out the Sandgrounders drew 0-0 with Darlington, a first clean sheet but not the desired win after a number of chances in front of goal.
There’s Only One…
This weekend’s cup opponents, Farsley Celtic, are currently 13th in the Northern Premier League, which is the division below from the National League North.
The Villagers have been on a good run of late, winning their last three games.
This winning streak began in this competition a few weeks back, as Adam Lakeland’s side put on a dominant performance against Guisborough Town, with a 4-0 win.
They followed that up with a 1-0 league win over Mickleover Sports, before another 4-0 victory against Pontefract Collieries in the Integro League Cup.
Scoring goals hasn’t been an issue for this Farsley side, getting on the scoresheet every game this season, with 20 goals in eight games.
Despite being lower league opponents they could ask a lot of questions of Liam Watson’s side with players such as Nathan Cartman and Jack Higgins.
Although the previous meeting between the two, back in 2016, was a successful day for the Sandgrounders with a 4-0 win in the FA Trophy.
The Emirates FA Cup is a special competition and both clubs will want to experience a good run in the competition for many reasons, including the financial rewards and excitement the draw brings on a Monday.
