Southport’s own Farmhouse Kitchen have scooped a bronze prize in the fiercely contested British Pie Awards.
Their unique Big Bert’s Pie impressed the judges so much they secured bronze in the Beef & Ale Pie category.
With over 900 entries and competition from chefs around the world, many having won Michelin Stars, any recognition from the judges is seen as a significant achievement in the industry.
Based on Old Park Lane in Churchtown, The Farmhouse Kitchen has quickly become a local favourite for their homemade pies and sausage rolls, feeding thousands of hungry residents, workers and visitors from around the town and beyond.
The Farmhouse Kitchen said: “We’ve been making our pies for over 3 years now and although we know the locals love them, it’s nice to get recognition from a national award for the quality of what we produce.
Dr Matthew O’Callaghan, Chairman of the British Pie Awards said: “I’m so pleased that TFK are amongst the Award Winners. The judges were very complimentary about the pie, which is why it won an Award.”
The British Pie Awards now in its 15th year brings in entries from across the country and from bakers, butchers, pubs, sports clubs, Fish & Chip shops amongst other pie makers judged by a team of 140 judges.
The contest comprises 23 different classes or types of pie including traditional favourites and newcomers such as Vegan and Gluten Free Pies.
The overall winner, Supreme Champion or ‘Pie of Pies’ was won by Leicestershire Piemaker Brockleby’s with their ‘Moo & Blue Pie’, a Steak and Ale Pie with Stilton.
