Farmhouse Kitchen crowned best pie makers in Britain

Southport’s premier pie making duo from Southport is leaving their competitors to pick up the crumbs after storming to a double win in the British Pie Awards 2025.

The Farmhouse Kitchen, run by a mum and son duo, on Old Park Lane won best pie in the country in two different classes while being highly commended in two others.

The pair each entered their own specialities this year, with the spoils being shared as both mum and son each took home ‘class winner’ which is a league above the gold medal category.

Judges were wowed by Mrs Farmhouse’s Fish Pie while the cheekily named Big John’s Highland Flinger also left pie experts drooling.

Overall the team scooped six medals (two gold, two silver and two bronze) at the annual battle of the pies.

The annual celebration of the classic slice of homecooked life is a well baked tradition across Britain and sees pie makers from Lands End to John o’ Groats battle it out to be the best.

Southport’s very own Farmhouse Kitchen are no strangers to the competition and are now six time Bronze Medal winners alongside their gold and silver crowns.

This year the Farmhouse team took eleven different pies to the competition including seven of their very best sellers alongside four new flavours that are quickly turning out to be rising stars of the Old Park Lane based bakery and deli.

In the UK over £1billion worth of pies are sold every year, whether they be hot, cold, sweet or savoury.

In recent years the humble staple has become even more diverse with gluten free, vegan, fusion and other styles of pie rising in popularity.

Pies have been a British tradition since the Middle Ages – then called ‘coffyns’’ – when at that time the poor ate pies made from the entrails of venison, called ‘umbles’ hence the expression ‘To Eat Umble Pie”.
