A four time winner of the illustrious British Pie Awards are hoping to once again be a crust above the rest.
The Farmhouse Kitchen, situated on Old Park Lane, have served up a mouth watering eleven different pastry based delights before judges at the British Pie Awards.
The annual celebration of the classic slice of homecooked life is a well baked tradition across Britain and sees pie makers from Lands End to John o’ Groats battle it out to be the best.
Southport’s very own Farmhouse Kitchen are no strangers to the competition and are hailed as a four time Bronze Medal winning bakery team.
This year the Farmhouse team are taking eleven different pies to the competition including seven of their very best sellers alongside four new flavours that are quickly turning out to be rising stars of the Old Park Lane based bakery and deli.
British Pie Week runs from 3rd-10th March and is designed to celebrate Britian’s most important contribution to world food heritage – the pie.
In the UK over £1billion worth of pies are sold every year, whether they be hot, cold, sweet or savoury.
In recent years the humble staple has become even more diverse with gluten free, vegan, fusion and other styles of pie rising in popularity.
Pies have been a British tradition since the Middle Ages – then called ‘coffyns’’ – when at that time the poor ate pies made from the entrails of venison, called ‘umbles’ hence the expression ‘To Eat Umble Pie”.
