Rumours are swirling on social media that two thieves wielding a ‘pickaxe’ broke into a town centre Petrol station overnight.
Detectives have confirmed that the Morrisons Petrol station adjacent to Rotten Row was broken into and the shop floor showed signs of being disturbed after an alarm was tripped.
An investigation into the incident, which is being treated as a break-in, although police can’t confirm if anything was stolen or if a weapon was used.
It’s understood no staff were in the building at the time.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “At around 4.30am this morning, Thursday 13 January, we received a report of a burglary at Morrisons petrol station on Lord Street, Southport.
“Officers attended and found that the front door of the building had been damaged and the premises had been searched.
“CCTV, forensic and witness enquiries are being carried out to identify those responsible.”
