Popular 90s children’s entertainer Timmy Mallett suprised the team at the Atkinson in Southport today.
The TV star is cycling around the length of mainland Britain on a special coast to coast cycle ride.
Timmy rode into Southport late last night after touring nearby Crosby and Formby beaches.
He is sharing his journey on social media and was even joined by local cyclists for the sefton stretch of his journey.
This morning he surprised the team at the arts centre with an impromptu visit to the Atkinson.
Staff were delighted to meet the upbeat and friendly star, even offering to give Mallett a bespoke tour of some of the building’s historical collections.
Timmy said “The [Sefton] cycle path had been tarmacced and is a joy on a blowy Spring afternoon.
“Greg (a fan) had been following the adventure for weeks now and found me and led us through Formby and ainsdale.
“The woods are wonderful and the gravel track that undulates through them is such fun. That’s a real highlight.
Pedalled past pontins and into Southport past the huge sandy dunes to the start of the trans Pennine cycle route and the quirky pier
Southport pier is enormous. It stretches forever and never seems to reach the sea!
I like Southport. A genteel town with impressive civic buildings and a wider main boulevard that many other towns would be jealous of.
A great 30 miles ridden and thanks to Laura and Greg for joining me today.”
