An air ambulance has been called to a serious incident on the Formby bypass involving a lorry and a motorcycle, causing extensive disruption this morning.
Paramedics and an air ambulance have been called to the scene where one person is receiving medical attention.
Police have partially closed the roundabout between the Formby bypass and the B5424 as emergency services deal with the ongoing incident.
The accident has led to traffic queues on the bypass, with emergency services being summoned to the scene.
Some drivers, in their desperation to escape the traffic, are resorting to driving dangerously on the pavement and grass verges.
Additionally, police have not been stopping drivers from executing dangerous U-turns on the Liverpool Road roundabout, leading to conflicts with oncoming northbound traffic.
Frustrated motorists have reported waiting times of over half an hour to be released from the traffic chaos.
Emergency services are on the scene, and travellers are urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes if possible. Police have yet to comment on the nature of the incident or any potential casualties.
