Emergency responders called to Sussex Road incident

Police and paramedics have been called to the area

Emergency services including paramedics have been called to the Sussex Road area of Southport this morning following a serious incident.

OTS understands first responders from North West Ambulance service as well as police and fire crews have been called to an area near to the Railway Club on Sussex Road.

Eye witnesses say police officers have been seen looking over the bridge onto the railway line below and taking photographs of the scene.

Three Serious Response Unit (SRU) ambulances have also been called to the area and rail services on the Northern line in and out of Southport have been suspended or cancelled.

A National Rail spokesperson said “The emergency services are dealing with an incident and as a result all lines are closed.

Trains are unable to run between Wigan Wallgate and Southport stations and will be cancelled or revised to start / terminate at Wigan Wallgate.”

The bridge between St Luke’s Road and Tithebarn Road has been sealed off to traffic and motorists are being asked to seek alternative routes at this time.

The incident is ongoing and there are no further updates at this stage.

OTS understands emergency services were seen rushing to the scene shortly after 9.30am this morning (Saturday November 23rd).
