Eastbound M62 closed near Warrington following serious collision
Drivers using the M62 in Cheshire and Merseyside are being advised the eastbound carriageway is closed near Warrington following a serious collision between 2 lorries at about 8.45am today.
The eastbound carriageway towards Manchester is closed between junction 9 at Winwick and junction 10 at Croft Interchange with the M6. It is likely to be closed for several hours. The westbound carriageway is being closed briefly to allow an air ambulance to land.
A diversion is in place with eastbound drivers being directed off the motorway at junction 9 and sent along the northbound A49 and Winwick Link Road to junction 22 of the M6 where they can use the southbound M6 to travel to junction 21 and rejoin the eastbound M62 at Croft Interchange. Drivers should follow the ‘solid triangle’ diversion.
Highways England traffic officers from the outstation at Newton-le-Willows are at the scene helping to manage traffic while colleagues at the North West Regional Control Centre at Newton and the National Traffic Operations Centre at Quinton near Birmingham have set electronic message signs across parts of the local, regional and national motorway network to advise drivers of the closure.
Drivers are being advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route or delay journeys. They are also advised to check traffic conditions before setting out on journeys.
