Duo arrested after police dog beach hunt

Two males were arrested this afternoon (Tuesday September 5th) for theft of a motor vehicle after making off from officers on Ainsdale Beach.

The car had been stolen in Southport on Sunday night. The two males attempted to hide on the beach but were located by police dogs.

The search involved a number of officers and staff to contain the area of the beach and coastal road in the area of Pontins at peak time.

Traffic was held up temporarily while officers dealt with the incident and only minor delays were experienced

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We apologise for the congestion & thank drivers for their patience on the coastal road this afternoon.”
