‘Drunk’ trespasser takes Pier buggy on joy ride over dangerous structure

A man has been caught on camera breaking into Southport Pier and taking a golf cart for a joyride along the decaying tourist attraction.

Despite being sealed off to the public there have been numerous instances of people gaining unauthorised access to the Pier in recent weeks.

Last week it was reported that police had to remove ‘about 40’ people from the Pier after they entered through a reportedly broken doorway.

Now Southport Pier Pavillion have posted a furious update to say their alarms were tripped early on Sunday morning when a man was seen stealing their golf cart, which is used to ferry deliveries up and down the Pier.

CCTV footage shows a man ‘with a can in his hand’ tripping the alarm system before activating the buggy.

The Pier Pavillion said “perhaps he misses the train?

“but in all seriousness we are pleading for some respect of our property and us as a family at this horrific time for our business.”
