Drivers told to avoid flooded Coastal Road

Drivers are being warned to avoid the coastal road this morning after heavy rainfall has flooded parts of the busy road.

Motorists are known to speed down the coastal road at excess but a buildup of standing water means conditions are precarious and commuters are being warned to take alternative routes both in and out of Southport.

Highway Safety experts have said if the rain continues to fall and the road floods anymore than it already has done, police may be forced to close it for the remainder of the day
