Downpours cause flash flooding in Southport

29th September 2019

Heavy rain overnight has caused major flooding in parts of Southport.

Homes in Crossens have had to bail out their gardens filled with rainwater while Rotten Row, which is closed to traffic for the Fireworks, is now underwater.

Heavy rain which has continued overnight into Sunday afternoon has caused a major buildup of standing water and sewer storm drains can’t cope.

The water is expected to disperse over the next few days while the drains try to flush the excess rainwater but motorists are advised to expect lengthy delays and possible road closures, especially in the Crossens area of Southport
