People who thought there might be a breath of fresh air blowing through Sefton Council have another think coming. Peter Dowd may be off to Westminster as Bootle’s new Labour MP but he has stayed on as a Sefton MBC councillor. Peter’s brother ‘Million dollar Mark’, who was eased out of the Merseytravel chair after various scandals, has retired from the council but it is Mark’s daughter Marion Atkinson (Peter’s niece) who has emerged from nowhere to be the new Sefton Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills. These Dowds certainly have a lot of skills in regenerating themselves on the Council!
The old Sefton Cabinet had seven members out of seven from Bootle on it – the new one has EIGHT from Bootle – but there are now nine Cabinet members in total. The Council has yet to determine how much they will be paid.
