A dog walker says he is heartbroken after his pet was savagely attacked by a cow after walking through their enclosure.
Peter Gordon says he was chased and his dog attacked by a mad cow on Ainsdale sand dunes this morning.
He said that the attack lasted over a minute and he was traumatised by the ordeal. He said the cows continued to follow him in an aggressive manner before he made a quick escape to safety. He said he wants to warn others of the aggressive beasts.
Peter said “I was walking my three dogs in the fenced-off area on the Birkdale/Ainsdale Dunes this morning approx 11am and we were followed purposely by a herd of cows and one of my dogs was attacked and trampled by the lead cow.
Thankfully, she appears unhurt, although she was screaming whilst the minute-long attack was taking place.
I took the dogs as quickly as possible out of the ‘pen’ and while I was relating the story to another dog-walker, the cows came over a hill and came up to the fence in an aggressive manner.
I’m going to phone the Coastal Rangers at the earliest opportunity and I wanted to let other people know about this and warn them of the danger.
“This attack was completely unprovoked and shook me to my core and I dread to think what might happen to another dog or a rambler or even a child if these cows repeat the action they took this morning.”
