A greyhound that was rescued from certain death after being left in a swelteringly hot car over a year ago outside a Southport hotel has made a full recovery.
On the 19th of July last year Tara the greyhound was found close to death in the back of a car in the carpark of the Bold Hotel, Southport.
12 month later, although a little frail, she’s still enjoying life and holidays with her new family.
After being rescued she spent two weeks at a vets in Southport before being placed in a foster home.
The owners went to court, and although rewarded the dog back, decided, realising the care Tara would now need and the cost involved, to sign her over in to the care of the Retired Greyhound Trust.
Tara stayed in her foster home and is part of a loving family with other dogs for company.
The Retired Greyhound Trust is supporting Tara and taking care of her considerable vet bills every month.
Tara suffered kidney damage and damage to her retinas due to heat and extreme dehydration.
She’s managing well on medication and good food, but unfortunately has now lost her sight in both eyes.
But she’s a tough little cookie, enjoying life in the slow lane, loves her food and being spoilt.
Please please dog owners, don’t leave your dog’s in cars, they get hot very quickly.
Tara was extremely lucky to survive thanks to passers by noticing her plight and taking action but will be suffering the consequences of being left in a hot car for the rest of her life.
Tara would like to thank everybody that was involved in her rescue, she would not be here without you.
