How dodgy sat navs are costing 29 hours a year.

With the news that motorists waste 29 hours every year using sat navs, Finlay Clark, head of Waze UK comments;

“It’s not surprising to hear that drivers are frustrated with sat navs. Many are not updated with the latest maps and do not use live traffic data. This combined with increasing congestion on the UK road networks means that drivers are spending more and more time in their car when they don’t necessarily need to.

“Our data, last year revealed that average speeds around the UK are decreasing. In London for example, speeds are down by 12% to just 17.4mph. Furthermore, the number of traffic jam reports were up by 56% last year.

“With 2 million drivers in the UK sharing traffic and other incidents with fellow drivers, Waze guides people to their destination in the most direct route possible taking into account live traffic conditions. We also have over 300,000 volunteer map editors globally who kindly give up their time to ensure that the map in their local area is the most up to date. This combined with reports from other drivers means everyone is playing their part.

“Traffic is the enemy. But everyone contributes to traffic, so only by working together can we have a better chance of reducing it, which is better for the environment but more importantly, better for everyone’s sanity”.
