One in 5 Southport residents have said their relationship with their next door neighbour has ‘soured’ as a result of the covid 19 pandemic, research shows.
One in five people have described a souring of community spirit after a year in which ministers called on the public to report lockdown breaches.
It’s thought the element of lockdown snitching has since fostered a increased level of distrust and dislike of people who live next door and in the immediate area to each other.
Neighbourly distrust has grown more than fivefold since summer 2020, with one in five people in Britain saying relations have soured in their communities.
The survey was carried out by researchers at University College London, who monitored the attitudes of more than 70,000 people throughout the pandemic.
17% said in Sept 2021 that they now felt less cohesive, close, and had fewer shared values with their neighbours
