A DJ from Southport teamed up with a host of celebrities to abseil more than 260ft down the ArcelorMittal Orbit in London’s Olympic Park to raise funds for charity.
BBC Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts, took on the recent terrifying drop for children’s charity Barnardo’s. They were joined on the experience by service users from Barnardo’s Wiltshire Short Breaks service.
Every participant was sponsored to take part with the aim of raising £10,000 overall for the UK’s largest children’s charity, with all the money raised going to Wiltshire Short Breaks will go towards that service. Barnardo’s service managers and staff also took part in the abseil, as well as brave members of the public.
DJ Adele Roberts said: “When we were getting ready I thought this is happening too quickly. Before I knew it I was up there and I could see the whole of London and I’d never seen it this high before. The next thing I was on a ledge and I was terrified but the guys at the top were so good at talking me through it.
“I went from feeling terrified to feeling exhilarated. It was incredible. Once Barnardo’s asked me to do this I committed to it and it made it a lot easier because I knew it was for Barnardo’s.”
