A man claims he was stabbed by an unknown assailant in Ainsdale beach earlier this week.
Despite not needing hospital treatment for his wounds, the male has since reported the incident to Merseyside Police.
They are now investigating the case.
At around 10.30am on April 1st, a man aged in his 40s reported he had been assaulted whilst out jogging in an area of the sand dunes next to the Coastal Road, near Westbourne Road.
The man says he was attacked from behind by an unknown male and had sustained a stab wound to his stomach.
The suspect is described as being around 6ft 2in tall, has a broad build and was wearing all dark clothing. He left the scene on foot.
The victim was able to return home and didn’t require hospital treatment.
Nothing was reported stolen and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of this incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul McVeigh said: “At this stage of the investigation we are looking to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and we are appealing for anyone with information to please come forward.
“I understand this incident could cause concern for the community, but please be assured that we taking this report extremely seriously and are carrying out a thorough investigation.
“We are appealing for anyone who was driving along the Coastal Road at the time of the incident to please review your dashcam footage to see if you captured anything that could help our investigation.
“Similarly, if you live in the area and have CCTV footage, please check to see if you captured anything around the time of the incident.”
