Desolate Lord Street empty as cops enforce lockdown

The eerie quiet of a town on full lockdown became a reality this morning as police started to enforce a stay at home order

Hardly a soul was spotted on Lord Street today in dark contrast to panic buying and rule flouting shoppers on the weekend.

Most stores have now closed and only a few supermarkets remain open for business.

One pensioner who lives at Sandown Court said “looking out my window it’s like Christmas Day. There isn’t a soul about and it’s all very quiet.

“This is nothing compared to the hardship we had many years ago during the war but we must all stick to this together.”
