Campaigners who are desperate to save Southport Theatre say the building is now flooded and riddled with legionella after being shut for over 6 months.
Those behind the Save the Southport Theatre Campaign on Facebook also claimed the building is suffering from an unspecific ‘infestation.’
It follows a meeting between the group and Sefton Council’s Tourism head.
Lisa Lea Kelly, one of the main campaigners in the group, announced today “Further to my meeting with Sefton Council I can confirm that the building has suffered greatly in the last few months whilst being empty.
There have been various floods throughout the building and an infestation, legionella was also present. This will happen to any building of that size that is not checked daily and looked after!
The alarm has been going off because of water damage to the electrics not due to break ins, yet!
There are ASB issues outside the building which again doesn’t surprise me as the outside hasn’t been cleared and looks a disgrace. I have offered to clear the debris from the back as it is not only a eye sore but a fire risk.
Sefton assured me that contractors have been on site ‘temporarily’ fixing the issues and that all H & S and fire certificates are up to date.
No decisions have been made on whether STCC can or will open when Covid is over.
We will continue to prove the merits of STCC for the people of SOUTHPORT, it’s all about conferences with them, not what we the residents also need and want.
