Cambridge Ward councillor Sue McGuire has announced that she is not seeking re-election in this years local elections, held on May 3rd. After 12 years on the Council, including a recent stint as Leader of the Lib Dems on Sefton Council and after standing for the Liberal Democrats in last years General Election.
In a recent letter to supporters in Cambridge Ward, Cllr McGuire said; “It has been a privilege to serve as your local councillor for the past 12 years. In my time on the
council I have done everything in my power to stand up and fight for the residents of Southport, whether as a school governor at Marshside Primary School, tackling grot spots with Rubbish Friends or campaigning for our local hospital services. But after 12 years, I have decided it is time to seek new challenges outside of politics and so I will not be seeking re-election this May.”
The Liberal Democrats have announced that local activist and resident Leo Evans will be standing in her place. Leo said; “It’s an honour to have been selected by the Liberal Democrats to stand in Cambridge Ward. I’ve got some big boots to fill, but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Sue said; “Leo will bring fresh energy and drive to our team here in Southport, I’ve been working closely with him now for the last few years and know he would be an excellent councillor for our area.”
