Newly-formed Churchtown TNA suffered a difficult start to their Southport and District Championship season, with three goals not enough to overcome Orme FC in their opening match.
Taking to the field for the first time in their stunning OTS News-sponsored kit, Churchtown went down early to a great strike from the edge of the box but managed to get back on terms following a foul in the Orme penalty area on defender Callum Hudson, who had joined the Churchtown attack for a corner. Taylor Stanbrook calmly dispatched the penalty to make the score 1-1
Orme retook the lead capitalising on a strong period of pressure with 2 quick-fire goals before Sonny McGlory fired home assisted by Nathan Armstrong to make it 2-3 at the break.
With a second half scattered with injuries and changes, Churchtown couldn’t quite get a foothold in the game and slipped to trail 2-4.
In the final minutes, some hope was restored to take something out of the game as McGlory ran from deep following a long kick from goalkeeper Michael Simonsen slotting the ball smartly into the net after a fantastic first touch for his second of the game.
Sadly there wasn’t enough time left on the referee’s watch to steal a share of the points and the game ended 3-4.
A lot of positives and a gutsy performance from Churchtown who will go into their next game with Pines on Sunday with a point to prove and you can check out the odds on sports betting Mostbet.
