Damien Moore MP welcomes £2million investment into Southport’s coastal economy
This week, the government announced a further £40 million to support communities along Britain’s coastline, in addition to the £2million already guranteed for Southport’s coastal economy.
The investment means Sefton MBC will work in partnership with the Southport CCT to carry out a series of improvements to the grade two listed pier in Southport. This will include painting the structure, installing improved lighting, fitting a new staircase and helter skelter, a constructing new food and trail kiosks.
Additionally, Sefton MBC will work with local stakeholders to improve the year-round visitor offer on the pier. This will include the creation of a Visitor Welcome Team and promotion of the pier as a vantage point for bird watching.
Commenting on the investment, Damien said:
“Following this weeks announcement that the government is investing into our coastal communities, I am delighted to see that £2million is already earmarked for Southport.”
“The investment will go toward much needed improvements on the pier and shows that we are committed to revitalising Southport’s local economy after years of decline and neglect.”
“Whilst the local Labour Party have reportedly thrown millions into Bootle for a shopping centre, it is the Conservatives nationally who are investing in Southport’s future success, ensuring it gets its fair share.”
