Southport MP Damien Moore is set to meet with bosses of bus company Arriva in a bid to resolve long-running strike action, which is affecting hundreds of Southport residents.
GMB and Unite members within Arriva North West have so far voted for seven days of industrial action, with further action scheduled for 4, 7, 10, 12, 14, 20, 21, 22 and 23 December.
The Arriva bus depots affected are Birkenhead, Bootle, Green Lane (Stoneycroft), Southport, Runcorn, St Helens, and Speke.
Damien Moore MP told OTS News said:
“Today I have arranged to meet with bosses at Arriva to discuss the long-running dispute over bus drivers pay and working conditions and hopefully come to a resolution. It’s important, particularly as we lead up to Christmas, that we address this issue for the benefit of all those involved, and all those who may be affected by strike action.”
“Bus drivers and their families will be particularly anxious during the Christmas period and I know that they will not have taken this action lightly. However, I am conscious that there are hundreds if not thousands of residents who will be impacted by these strikes, not to mention businesses who will be hampered by a drop in footfall.”
“I’m willing to listen to all those involved and help where I can find a resolution to this dispute. I have also contacted a number of those striking in a bid to hold talks.”
