Last week, the Boundary Commission published their revised proposals for the Parliamentary Constituency Boundary’s and retain their initial proposals for Southport.
These proposals are subject to a further 8-week consultation (17th October until 11th December) and once finalised they will be subject to a vote in the House.
The decision by the Boundary Commission not to change their initial proposals is largely supported, including by the Conservative, Liberal Democrat, and Labour parties, and members of the public.
The Commission propose to enlarge Southport constituency by including the neighbouring wards of North Meols, Tarleton, and Hesketh and Beccensall, which currently reside in the South Ribble constituency.
Following the publication of the revised proposals Damien Moore MP said:
“Along with my constituents who responded to this consultation I am pleased that the Boundary Commission have taken on board the wishes of the people in my area, who are set to benefit from the draft proposals.”
“I am encouraged that these proposals look more toward Lancashire and less toward Merseyside. I believe this is in the best interests of Southport residents who want to get further away from Crosby and Bootle.”
“Whilst it is looking more and more unlikely that this set of proposals will be voted through the commons, I am hopeful that a further proposal will be successful in the future, which will not look too dissimilar.”
“Today, I am pledging to my constituents that as their elected representatives I will not ignore their voice and will vote in favour of the most beneficial proposal for our town.”
