This morning, Damien Moore MP met with Age UK to discuss the Governments plans to launch a social care Green Paper on behalf of residents living in Southport.
The charity, which campaigns to make the UK a great place to grow older, aims to inspire, support and enable elderly residents in number of ways.
The meeting was held as figures show there are currently 22,805 residents (30.7% of the total electorate) in Southport who are aged 65+, of which 8,481 live alone.
Commenting on the meeting, Damien said:
“Day to day tasks that many of us take for granted – like getting dressed, using the toilet, making a meal, or getting to the shops – can be almost impossible for many older people without help. Older people should be able to live well, not just survive, and future changes to the social care system must help enable them to live with dignity.”
“I will be writing to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Jeremy Hunt MP, to outline my thoughts on the matter and to ask for an update on the social care Green Paper timeline.”
