Southport MP, Damien Moore, has this week spoken in a debate for there to be added accessibility at railway stations across the United Kingdom.
In Southport, Hillside station has limited access, yet there are approximately 107, 074 journeys made by disabled and elderly people each year. Having little–to–no access in the form of a lift causes unnecessary hardships on local residents.
Damien has long campaigned for lift access at the station and for there to be an easy and more attainable route to using public transport.
40% of stations across England, including Hillside, do not having any access to platforms. The new scheme set to be launched in April by the Department for Transport will be short-listing stations to be the recipient of Government funds to improve station accessibility.
