Southport ‘s MP Damien Moore has today moved a ‘Ten Minute Bill’ in the House of Commons seeking to bring in new criminal measures in respect of postal vote fraud.
In moving his Bill, Mr Moore referrred to ‘devious and unscrupulous behaviour’ of some political campaigners.
Mr Moore’s move was opposed by Stoke on Trent MP Gareth Snell who pointed out that the number of people involved or alleged to be involved in voter impersonation amounted to a total of 44 in 2017 out of many millions of voters in every general election.
He was concerned that Mr Moore would criminalise those who assisted disabled people to vote. and poinyerd out that the official Conservative spokesperson on these matters had stated that such moves as Mr Moore was proposing simply would not work.
