Southport MP Damien Moore says allegations that Christmas parties were held in Downing Street last year must be investigated.
Stories first appearing in The Mirror suggested that a Christmas party was held at Downing Street in December 2020 in a breach of tier 3 covid restrictions in place in London at the time.
A video then obtained by ITV News showed Downing Street press staff supposedly mocking and making light of a party during a briefing rehearsal.
Downing Street denies any such party occurred and that covid regulations have been followed at all times in No. 10. The Prime Minister yesterday confirmed the matter would be investigated.
A statement from Damien Moore read: “I, like my constituents, did not have the usual family celebration last Christmas, as we in Southport all did the right thing and followed the rules. Sadly, I know some people did not get to see their families again due to the devastating impact of coronavirus.
“The allegations of a party at Number 10 Downing Street at Christmas last year needs to be thoroughly investigated, and consequential action needs to be taken if the rules are found to have been broken. I await the outcome of the investigation announced by the Prime Minister.
“Thank you to those constituents who have written to me on this issue.
