UPDATE | Cyclist seriously injured in Crossens horror smash

ROAD CLOSURES: 9:55PM Thursday 8th November.

Due to a serious road traffic collision, PRESTON NEW ROAD in Southport remains closed between the PLOUGH ROUNDABOUT to the junction with FYLDE ROAD while the investigation into the collision continues. This closure is likely to remain in place for at least another 2 hours, until midnight.

Drivers travelling north on Preston New Road towards Preston should turn right at the mini roundabout onto North Road and then left onto Rufford Road, which will take them to the Plough Roundabout.

The road closures will be lifted as soon as possible. Thank you for your co-operation.

Cyclist seriously injured in Crossens horror smash

A cyclist has been struck and seriously injured in a rush hour smash on Preston New Road.

Traffic is at a standstill in the area and emergency services are on their way to the scene after serious collision involving four cars and a cyclist near to Fylde Road junction.

A cyclist is currently being treated at the scene for serious injuries and passers by have stopped to administer first aid.

His condition is currently unknown.

Police are asking people to avoid the area and any witnesses should call 101.
