Recently burglaries have taken place in James Street (garage) Seabank Road (outbuildings), Wennington Road, Moss Lane. Grange Road (shed)
Door to Door Salesmen
During the past few weeks the Police have received reports of door to door salesmen calling at properties in Sefton. The callers have stated that they have been in prison or youth offenders centres.
The males either have a rucksack or large bag with them, containing items for sale. Most of the reports have involved visits to older people who found their attitude intimidating. In one instance the caller put the bag in the doorway once the front door was opened, which prevented the resident from closing the door, and only moved it on request when a purchase was made. A second resident didn’t buy anything but gave money so the caller would leave the property.
One male was described as 5’ 7” with blonde ginger hair and fair skin. Another male was described as white, a skinhead and of large build.
Suggestions to Protect Residents from Unknown and Cold Callers
If your house has a porch, keep the door locked at all times and speak to strangers who call through the glass. The closed door acts both as a barrier and a protection.
Houses without a porch can be also made safer by the residents putting the chain on the door before opening it to speak to the unknown caller.
