Cold Weather Car Crime

At this time of the year it is darker earlier and longer, the weather is colder, and on the approach to Christmas you may have presents on display both in your home and in your vehicle. If you take the time to assess their security, you will greatly reduce the risk of becoming a victim.

·         On cold mornings, don’t leave your car unattended with the engine running while it warms up or you clear ice from the windows. Insurance companies may no longer cover against the theft of your vehicle if it is left unlocked or unattended when the keys are in the ignition. Don’t think it won’t happen to me, it already has to two Sefton residents in the past month.

·         Never leave anything on display in your vehicle, including empty boxes, bags or loose change, what may be worthless to you can be an attraction to someone else.
